Nevada Political Climate

The Nevada political climate is as predictable as annual precipitation averages. Often rural Nevada seeks a different political agenda compared to the more heavily populated regions of Washoe and Clark Counties and the Capitol, Carson City. Consider the casinos, the Native American Indian Reservations, issues of drought, Yucca Mountain and poverty, one can easily become aware of the unique and complex political climate.

In Nevada Lake Tahoe, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) is a bi-state regulatory authority which supersedes local jurisdictional authority. This has prompted the region to establish unique watershed-based planning measures uncommon nationwide.

It is imperative that local Nevadans become educated and involved in local decision-making. Without public participation, democracy does not function as it was intended.
